Nissan Repair: stalling, low oil pressure, oil light


Question
how would i identify if there is bearing damage or that would have to be determined by a mechanic are there any symptoms of bearing damage ?

hi i recently changed my oil but too much was put in since then my car has been sputtering and stalling constantly is this the problem will it go away if i drain some of the oil?

Gary,

It is really important to not overfill or underfill the oil.  If there is too much the crank will whip it up into a froth and then air will get in the oil galleries.  If there is not enough it will suck air and eat the bearings.  If it were me I would get the oil at the correct level and hope there has been no bearing damage from the oil getting whipped up.

If there is lower engine knocking like the bearings are worn down, as in loose tolerances, or a spun bearing.  But, in either case there would be low oil pressure as your first indication.  So, if the oil light is not on or your gauge is not reading low you should be fine.
