Nissan Repair: 87 pickup heater core removal, heater core removal, haynes manual

Question
The haynes manual does not mention anything about disconnecting the ac lines when it say's to remove the cooling unit...I have taken the blower unit out, loosened the cooling unit but it will not come out with the lines connected....does it have to come out at all? It appears so, because the heater core is on the left of it....I realize if I have to disconnect the lines, I have to have it purged at a shop....can you walk me thru the steps to get at the heater core? Thanks

Answer
Jim,

If you cannot split the case with the lines attached you are going to have to have the system evacuated.  I would pull the case apart like the bottom from the top and then access the core.  But, if you think you want to remove the entire case you will have to get it evacuated.  Now, that you have the case loose you should be able to get to all the fastners to take the bottom part off and then you can get to the case.
