Nissan Repair: 1992 nissan maxima loses power while driving., shutter mechanism, nissan maxima

You replied to a post on 1/6/05 regarding loosing power while driving. My nissan has been doing this for quite some time and no one seems to have the answer for me. It will drive fine for a while and then all of a sudden there is no power, it is like it is flooded, I'm lucky if it will do 30mph. Sometimes the rpm goes up and down like a yo-yo while I am driving. You mentioned oil on the distributor, do I need to clean it, replace it, change a seal?

If there is oil in the distributor the only options are a rebuilt distributor or if you can get a kit rebuild it yourself.  Basically, the seal in the bottom of the distributor leaks allowing oil to draw up the shaft and that contaminates the optical shutter mechanism.
