Volkswagen: Keeps Shutting Down, volt system, poor fuel

Question
I went to Cali in search of a Cal Bug and I picked up a 66 1300 STD. 5,500 miles on rebuilt eng. I'm driving 65-75 mph back to AZ and the car starts to shake like it's ready to die out and it does this for about 15 sec and goes back to normal and away I go. I t does this to me 5-6 times in the 350 miles. Once it died completely, I pull over wait about 20 seconds and it starts up.About 60 miles from home it just dies on me and I coast down the off ramp and pull in and get gas. Now it doesn't start, I have power to lights and radio and it cranks but doesn't sound good at all. Anyway I have it towed to a place and he writes Checks Gas to Carb-ok Checks Power to coil -ok Starter drive kicks out when cranking He finally gets it to start and says Idles poor and dies at Times. Now I get a high or low idle and it dies quite often. Please PLEASE Help Me I would certainly appreciate it.

Answer
Can you please let me know if it is a 6-volt system or converted to 12.

Do you have any modifications like dual carbs, electronic ignition, etc?

Does it have a tach in it connected to the coil?

Once you shoot me that info,  I can help you out.

Don't worry, it's most likely nothing major.  Probably your ignition points or poor fuel delivery.

But...send me the data she'll be running perfect soon!
