Nissan Repair: Nissan Patrol, diesel fuel additive, fuel pressure regulator

Question
Thank you for your fast response to my problem.

I have checked all the intake hoses but no leaks present.

I have had the fault codes read by my Nissan Dealer and they inform me that the problem lies with the EGR Valve.

Before I remove this for inspection I would like to know if this is a common problem with my vehicle and if you have experienced this before.

From my experience with other makes, the EGR Valve shaft suffers from carbon contamination and is not free to slide as it should. My intention, if the valve is in this state, is to de-carbon the shaft and refit in the hope this will extinguish the MIL.

Look forward to your comments

Andrew.

-----Question-----
I have a 8/2000 GUII Nissan Patrol with the 3.0 Turbo Diesel motor. The engine management warning light is constantly illuminated with the engine running. This light also acts as a water in fuel filter warning. I have renewed the fuel filter, but the light still comes on when the engine is running.Any clues as to why it is on?

Andrew,

If the MIL is on you need to get a code reader to discover what the code is telling you.  If you think it is water and you have already changed the filter try some diesel fuel additive that dissipates water.  From my experience the usual problem with water in the fuel is the fuel pressure regulator gets gummed up and that causes the problem.  Another issue with the turbo diesel is the hoses that feed air through the intake system.  Check for cracks and loose hose clamps.  If there is an intake path leak the light will come on and stay on.  And, if the leak is minor, which it sounds like it is, the engine will run but keep setting the MIL.

Answer
Andrew,

Yes, this is common on Nissan vehicles.  I would make sure the path was clear and replace the valve.  I have had no end of trouble with just cleaning it an reinstalling it.  If you do just clean it make sure it works free against the port it blocks or the light will come back.
