Nissan Repair: Shift Lever Can not be Moved, nissan altima, brake switch

Question
I have a 94 Nissan Altima. This morning, I started the car.then I tried put the gear in reverse. But the shift lever would not move. Every thing else is working including stop lights. Somebody told me to check Brake Reset Switch, but I couldn't find it. What seems to be the problem?

Answer
Alex,

It is either the brake switch that releases the shift interlock or the interlock itself.  You can access the plug on the shifter and insert a screwdriver to get it out of part in the mean time.  To check the system bridge the wire for the brake switch and if it works replace the switch and if not replace the solenoid on the shifter.
