Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Pathfinder Tranny wont shift out of 2nd., nissan pathfinder, computer resets

Question
My Step-dad gave me his 95 Pathfinder with about 190k mi. on it.  On the 1300mi. adventure from TX to WI, I started having some (what I THOUGHT was) minor problems w/ the tranny.  The truck would not shift out of 2nd gear.  Usually, this problem would rare its ugly head if I stopped, but did not turn off the engine.  If I DID turn it off for >10min., no problem.  But now, at 195,600mi, the tranny won't shift out of 2nd period.  I've even disconnected the batt. for 48hrs to see if it was a sensor screwing it up. (By recommendation of a mechanic buddy.)  But now the only gear other that P & R is 1st (IF I move the gear selector to 1) and 2nd if I just put it in drive.  I now cruise at 50mph in 2nd at 3000rpm.  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Answer
Hi Chance,

A Trojan horse! Well, that transmission is fully electronic. When it won't shift it's because it's in fail safe, second and reverse only. Computer resets when you turn off the key until it sees the problem again. I suggest you take it to a Cottman or Aamco transmission shop and have them diagnose this issue as soon as possible before big problems surface. Oh, as I read on, I see you waited too long and now it's a much more serious issue. Please don't continue to drive it until you have it repaired. I would hate to see you need an engine also. Expect this repair to run at least $2500 to fix it right. Sorry, wish I had better news for you.
