Nissan Repair: My mistake, nissan sentra gxe, exaust system

Question
I told you I had a code reading of P0038 or P0039.  That was incorrect.  The code reading was P0037. I am getting old (80YRS) and my memory isn't that good so today I reread the code and it was P0037. The book and computer program indicates the following.  Fuel air metering auxcllary emmission control/HO2S Heater circuit low Bank 1 sensor .  I have checked the front sensor on the exaust from the engine and I get a resistance reading .  I assume that the heater element in this unit is good.  Have not got the car up on an a ramp to check the aft sensor for resistance.  Nissan Sentra 2003, GXE 1.8L, QG18DE engine. Been so busy fixing other porblems I am exausted.Any ideas woul help.  Again thank you for your patience and understandin. This is my Grandaughter car and I am trying to help her as she is a teacher and doesn't make much money.

I haev duscussed with Mr Von Susseth about a sensor problem.  Have not been able to get bck to hime.  His recommendation was to replace the oxygen sensor. In checking the prices of the sensors I find them priced from 140.00 down to 23.00. Are the lower price sensors OK to purchase. Nissan Sentra 2003 4 cyl 1.8L engine QG18DE Thank you

Hi Harry,

Depends on how long you are planning on keeping the car. Like anything, you get exactly what you pay for. Personally, I don't see how if the dealer charges $140 for theirs can a quality part be $23? Can you tell me what kind of problem you are having so I can be more specific?

Hi Harry,

Actually, the upper one is called an air flow meter/sensor. It would set a code P0102 or P1102. I don't show a code P0039 for this model, but I know that it is for sensor 2, the lower one or "down stream" behind the catalytic converter from past experience. It does list from Nissan for $137.43. Part number is 226A08U300. Coincidently, this number shows for upper and lower as the same. When you install this, clear the codes by disconnecting the batterys cables and holding them together for 10 seconds. Reconnect and road test.

Answer
Harry,

I am here for you, please ask anything, anytime. Thanks for clearing up the code issue! Scared me for a minute. Everything I have read on this Harry, indicates a bad downstream sensor. The lower one aft the cat. As long as the connection is good replacing the sensor should do the trick. I still stand by my recommendation to use the factory one. I know it's more expensive, but it will be right. I can here you now, like my father, saying if it's worth doing, do it right. hehehe Merry Christmas, Harry. God bless.
