Nissan Repair: 97 Nissan PU airbag removal, horn button, steering wheel

Question
I need to remove the airbag from the steering wheel to troubleshoot a horn problem.  Is this something I can do myself, and if so, what do I need to do to ensure that the airbag won't be set off?  Thanks.

Answer
Ken,

If you are not really mechanical I would be hesitant since the horn button is embedded in the airbag cover.  But, I take no liability here.

Disconnect the battery first.
Then take out the airbag fuse.
Then, under the dash on the driver's side unplug the yellow connector to the airbag.
Then, remove the covers on the back of the steering wheel and the two bolts that cover it.
Do not get on the operating end of the airbag when you remove it and hold it away from you and anyone else in the area.
Now, set it down, face up and you can get to what you need.
