Nissan Repair: 1998 nissan altima power window problem, nissan altima, master switch


Question
My 1998 nissan altima driver side power window stopped working when it was
in the down position.  Its stuck there.  It doesn't even make a motor sound when
I try to bring it back up.  how can I fix this problem my self?  All of the other
windows work fine.  Please help.

This could be as easy as the master switch needing to be replaced.  I have replaced the one in my 2000 Maxima twice in six years.  If water gets on the control it can mess up the contacts and there is no option but to replace it.  Now, you could have a defective window motor but you should pull up and down on the switch and window at the same time to see if there is any movement in the motor.  If there is no noise either way it is probably the switch.  Now, you could hot wire the window if you take the door panel off and disconnect the connector.  First, check the master switch to see if it is getting power to the motor.  The circuit reverses when you move the switch the other way...
