Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Sentra, nissan sentra, autozone

Question
I was in a shopping mall parking lot when I noticed that my air bag light was flashing.  I also noticed that my lights seemed to dim, and the break pedal didn't seem to travel all the way down.  Later, when I was driving home on the highway, the car didn't shift into a higher gear - the RPMs just kept going up.  At one point, it seemed as if the lights got even brighter.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Michael,

I would have the electrical system checked to see if the battery or alternator is going out.  Autozone or Checker will check the charging system for free.  The airbag light flashing indicates that it has a fault and it should be checked.  If it is flashing or on that means you have a problem in the circuit.  The dealer or a shop with an airbag scanner or a Consult II can get the code for you.  The transmission shifting problem can be from the charging system not working properly or you could have a stuck governor.  Have the charging system checked first to see if that corrects the problem.  If not, Cottman Transmission is a good place to have it inspected since they have been good to me many times.  They will not sell you a transmission if you do not need one.
