Classic/Antique Car Repair: grounding for 1962 Corvette, dick richard, indictor

Roger, just bought the 62 Vette and notice that when stepping on brake, using turn signals, and headlights on, the battery indictor goes way down and the gas gage jumps to full..in fact on short trips battery seems to be working hard to start car...What do I do and where do I start?

 I would test the battery first and the gen. to see what its putting out. also to see if the battery is getting a good charge to it. it could just be that the battery is bad or going.  also check the fan belt , see if its slipping on you.
