Nissan Repair: Transmission Problem, nissan pickup, rear wheel drive

Question
Well from what I know I have a 1989 Nissan pickup rear wheel drive with an automatic 4 speed transmission with an overdrive and i was driving it one day and heard a broken metal sound and i lost 3rd and up gears. It stayed in first gear unless i hit high rpms then it would jump into second. by the time i got home i only had first, no reverse or other gears. Any suggestions... Thanks a lot.

Answer
Hi Jesse,

You'll need to either have that one overhauled, which done correctly will run about $2500, or find on in a boneyard. A boneyard unit will probably run about $1200 to $1400 plus installation, fluid and so on. Careful on used ones. They never work. If they do, it isn't long. Wish there was something short of what I'm telling you that you could do. Sorry.
