Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Altima speedometer malfunction, vehicle speed sensor, nissan altima

Question
I have read the many posted answers to this problem but do not find my situation.  1995 Nissan Altima manual 5 speed: speedometer worked intermittently. Then it stopped all together, causing the check engine light to come on. Replaced the Vehicle Speed sensor. Speedometer would then not work when vehicle first started and driven few feet, then would work fine. Few weeks later started acting up again, slowly getting worse.  Needed clutch, replaced the clutch.  Speedometer problem went away. Thought somehow problem solved.  But now it has started doing it again.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Chris,

Four things make the speedo work. The speedometer head in the dash, the cable though many now are electronic and are very reliable, the speed sensor and the speed sensor drive gear inside the transmission which most now are an electronic pick up. Yours has a little gear on the speed sensor. We need to look at it and see if it was "apple cored". In other words, if it was shaped like an hour glass or damaged in anyway. If this is the case, then the drive gear in the transmission is likely to be in the same condition. If it seemed on, then check for continuity from the plug into the speed sensor to the plug at the back of the speedometer head with the key on. If that's ok replace your speedometer head. Part number 248202B500 for $176.87 at your local Nissan dealer. Book time for this repair, not including diagnostic time is 1.3 Hours or about 78 minutes.

Hope this helped, I'm going to go rest my fingers now!
