Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Idler Pulley Replacement, alternator pulley, side firewall

Question
I found your answer to Joyce and Bill but need more information if you can provide it.  The idler pulley I need to replace is not the one for the air conditioning. It's behind the alternator pulley if looking at the engine from the front of the car.  I believe the belt on this pulley drives the alternator, power steering, and water pump. The belt has lost all tension and the idler pulley is flopping around and/or resting on the belt. I can't really see the side of the pulley because it's a gnat's butt away from the side firewall.  I can't tell if it broke or the bolt(s) fell out.  How on earth do I get it out with the side firewall in the way?

Answer
Brian,

You have to jack the car up and take the panel off the bottom of the car and the tire and the side panel to get to it.  It is probably worn out and if that is the case replaced.  Nissan is the best bet for about $60 bucks as you get the whole thing and not just a pulley.
