Nissan Repair: 97 cefiro body kit module, nissan dealer, body control module

Question
My A32 was diagnosed by a nissan dealer, they say I need to change the body control module under the dash located at the center, back of the stereo. It's cost around $1000 to replace anew.  When I switch the dome light to door, it doesn't light, then warning sound is heard or the wiper turns on or the A/C fan switches to higher mode and the doorstep lamp does not go off.

There isn't a yard around, I have no choice but seek for repair. I found the man to the module.  However, he does not want to take it out because he is unsure if it will harm the programming of the system once he puts it back.  How can I prevent further damage if I take it out on my own? What should I do?

As if now, I've cut the wire of the dome light to prevent switching to the center (the door mode) which starts all the abnormalities.  No big problem, I'm just irritated and want it fixed.

Answer
Rodney,

Yes, the Body Control Module (BCM) needs to be replaced.  If the battery is disconnected there is no problem with removal of the BCM.  Seems in the late 1990's there was a problem with the BCM and on some cars they fail.  You will not have a problem if you take it out on your own.  Now, if you have the programmed keys they will have to be programmed to the new BCM as well as the remote if you have one of those.  Other than that it is no big problem changing it out.
