Nissan Repair: Terrano transmission problem, nissan terrano, wont move

Question
Hi there
I was wondering if you can help me out, I have a 1992 Nissan Terrano 3Lt V6 4x4, its just an old farm truck, Well today I was driving it down the paddock and all of a sudden it wont move in any gear, everything is fine I can move the gear lever but the problem is that it wont move forward or reverse, Ive worked the 4x4 selector as well and that seems fine, It was driving good as gold and then it just stopped going forward I can push the truck so its not stuck in gear or anything like that.
I hope this makes sense and any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason. NZ

Answer
Jason,

If the truck will go in gear and it does not move you might check to see if the 4X4 lever is not making the transfer case do its thing.  That is, you move the lever to get it into two wheel high or four wheel high or four wheel low and the lever is not doing anything.  Another thing is the internals of the four wheel drive transfer case could be broken.  Can't remember if the Terrano uses a chain or not.  But, I have seen many chains in transfer cases fail.  Like a chain on a motorcycle.  But, much larger.  Pretty easy to change if it is broken.  There is a nice cover on the transfer case to gain access.
