Nissan Repair: Transmission, nissan maxima, filter change

Hello:

I recently drove my daughter's 93 Nissan maxima from Atlanta to Memphis after she graduated from school.  The care drove fine until yesterday and now the transmission will go in reverse and forward only occasionally.  Is there a strainer I can replace.  This car is an automatic.  I can be driving along and then all of a sudden it will not go forward or reverse.  After sitting for a while the car will go forward.  Any help is welcomed.

Change the filter and fluid for the transmission and see if it corrects the problem.  Remember that the car is over ten years old and even after changing the fluid the transmission might have to be gone through.  But, from what you say a fluid and filter change might do the trick.  Otherwise you are looking at something over $1000 for a rebuild.  Check out Cottman as I ahve had good luck with them.
