Nissan Repair: heater core, nissan pathfinder, heater core

hi von.. i really appreciate if you could help me ...driving with my a/c on in the summertime my car had overheated and my neighbor had bypassed my heater core or something for me... i had replaced my radiator but now i have no heat .. my neighbor had said that now i will need a new heater core he had mentioned he would do it for me but its gonna cost me 800.00 cause he says that he will have to remove my whole dash to get to my heater core but when he bypassed it that day it took hom 10 minutes i just dont understand if that is the cost of labor for doing that work or if he is just b/s me can u please let me know if u think that price is right? by the way i have a 1989 nissan pathfinder 4wd... thank you soooo much

Looping the heater hose back to the engine to bypass the heater core is easy.  Takeing out a bad heater core requires removal of the dash to get to the box that contains the heater core.  It is a really difficult job and $800 is within reason.  I ahve heard upwards of $1100 bucks to do the job so it is not too bad what you are being quoted.
