Nissan Repair: Nissan Altima Ignition Switch, nissan altima, cylinder replacement

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Altima.  I drove it and parked it and removed the key from the ignition, no problem.  The next day I went out and the key will not go into the ingition.  I don't see any visible damage to either the keys (I did try both sets) or to the external face of the locking mechanism.  The keys do work in the door.  This leads me to believe it is inside the ignition lock, itself.  Would you agree, and do you have any suggestions to solve this?  I am approximately 45 miles from the nearest dealership and no locksmith in my rural community.

Answer
Cheryl,

Yes, it is the ignition switch that is stuck.  You could try to wiggle the steering wheel back and fourth and try to get the key in.  Also, use some WD40 in the hole and see if that helps.  Otherwise you are looking at replacement of the cylinder.  It is a pain as they make so the car cannot be stolen easily.  So, it is an ordeal to replace the cylinder.  The column cover has to come off and then you have to drill out the ignition collar to get the cylinder out.  I have went as far as to get a column out of a wrecking yard and just replaced it to avoid the cylinder replacement.
