Nissan Repair: transmission repair, beep beep, automatic tranny

my 94 nissan xe pickup has very little reverse and is skipping 1st gear on a automatic tranny. i took it to a reputable beep beep transmission repair shop. the quote was 2800 for a complete rebuild. is this really a fair price? blue book for a 94 nissan pickup in top condition is 2000.00.

Take it to Cottman and get a quote from them.  other option is a wrecking yard transmission.  if the rest of the truck is in good shape it is well worth it as they run forever.  If the transmission is only slipping and not eaten up inside the price should be around $1500 bucks.  AAMCO gives a high quote to cover their behind in case the transmission is toast.  If it is not they make out and if not they get a normal amount of profit.
