Nissan Repair: 1998 Infiniti I-30 MIL on/off, o2 sensors, knock sensor

Question
Intermittent MIL on/off.  Have had the codes checked a few times and all that ever shows is knock sensor.  Replaced all 3 O2 sensors.  Have never been lucky enough have the codes checked while the light was actually on so I am assuming it must need to be on when checked?  From reading the I-30 shop manual I have there is no indication that the knock sensor would illuminate the MIL so I am assuming that is not the problem.

Answer
Shane,

Yes, it is the knock sensor.  It is located under the intake and it requires the removal of the upper intake to change.  It will do the intermittent thing as you describe and it will throw the MIL.  So, change it and you should be fine.  Requires an upper intake gasket to remove the upper intake.  Takes about four hours if you have not done one before.  Not too difficult.  But, it is time consuming.
