Nissan Repair: 96 Altima, continuity test, knock sensor

Question
My Altima started giving me trouble the other day.  I will be driving and when I slow down at a stop it dies.  I can crank it back up and when I slow down again it will idle dowm below 500rpm and die.  I changed the distributer but no change.  Engine is knocking a bit.  There are no idiot lights coming on the dash but checked with OB II tester and get knock sensor code and 0733.  I mechanic told me not to change the knock sensor but what is 0733.
my haynes show some trouble shooting tips which I found the idle transistor on the top of MAS, is failing the continuity test the book describes.  Please help!

Answer
Ryan,

If the engine knocks and there is a code for the knock sensor I would change the sensor.  And, if you did the check on the transistor and it was out of range I would replace that too.

The 0733 code relates to the third gear in the transmission.  Now, that could be the servo or just the fliter and fluid needing to be changed.

Replace the knock sensor and the transistor and then disconnect the battery for five minutes and hook it back up and drive it and see if the codes stay gone.  Now, if the transmission code comes back you will need to have it looked at.
