Nissan Repair: 1994 primera starting problem and windows, haynes manual, back doors

Question
Hi, hope you can help. I have a 1.6 Primera GA16DE engine multi point injection. Sometimes everything is as it should be with no problems, however, sometimes when I turn the key to start the car it fires and then dies. I turn the key off and on again and it starts and dies. When it does finally start the ABS light flashes once and then the engine is running ok. This problem doesn't seem to happen for any particular reason, (i.e. damp, cold, or hot weather)and so far I have tried the following
1.Replaced all relays with known good ones (borrowed from my girlfriends Primera!)Except for small circular black one right at the behind the fuse console, not sure what that is. Did not improve starting.
2. Cleaned throttle body and checked all ignition circuit i.e. distributor and leads. Replaced spark plugs, cannot check coil as it is part of the distributor. Tried to remove rotor to remove distributor, but screw is very tight and I don't want to damage anything. Checked battery voltage - all good.
3. I have an after market immobiliser which only disables the starter motor - disconnected it, still no better, so I reconnected it. I have a 'Haynes' manual and have gone step by step through it.
4. I also have a problem with both electric rear windows - they will work up and from the main switches between the passenger and driver seat, but the switches on the back doors will only roll the windows up, once they have been opened, but will not roll down the windows. I have changed the master switch in the driver's door with two others and they still don't work from the back.
Could these two problems be related? Sorry this is a bit long, but I wanted to mention everything I'd already tried. I have tried to find the circuit breaker shown in the Haynes manual, but it doesn't say where it's sited.
I have bought a genuine fuel filter which I haven't yet fitted. Fuel pump and delivery seems ok. I've tried everything that I'm capable of, do you have any other ideas?
Thanks a lot

Answer
Liam,

On the fuel pump situation I would check if you are getting pressure when the engine dies.  Get a fuel pressure gauge and hoot to the fuel rail and when the car dies see if the pressure drops off.  If it does then check the oil pressure sensing unit to see if it is defective.  In the event of oil pressure loss the computer shuts off electrical to the pump.  If there is current to the fuel pump then I would check the fuel pump by hardwiring around the relay.  If you still do not have pressure then replace the pump.

I know you will not believe that the rear switches could both go out but I have had this problem on a couple of Maxima cars.  I would get a doner switch from the girlfriends car and check one of them.  Also, you could hotwire the motor and see if that works.  Check these out and email me back with what you find and we'll go from there.
