Nissan Repair: 01 path brake light short, brake light switch, blown fuse

Question
I have an '01 pathfinder 3.5L, with an emerging electrical problem. She starts, no problem, but won't shift out of Park (as if the brake isn't depressed, which it is). In consulting the manual, I found out that this is typical if the brake lights are out. Troubleshooting resulted in a blown fuse. Replaced fuse. 2nd try, same result. Another blown fuse.(!!!) Any advice?

Answer
Remove the bulbs and clean out the sockets. Sometimes corrosion will cause a short. Sometimes a bad bulb will blow a fuse. Oh, wait, won't come out of park because of a bad brake switch. That's likely the issue. It's cheap and easy to replace so start there. Replace the brake light switch at the pedal.
