Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Altima door panel removal, nissan altima gxe, nissan altima

Question
Hi,
I got a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE and the speaker in the front passenger's side door is making noise. I doubt this is due to some loose screws that mount the speaker and would like to check it myself before heading to some specialist who deals with car audio. Do you have any information about how to remove the door panel so I can check the speaker? Thank you very much for your help.

Answer
Jay,

To remove the door panel you are going to need a phillips screwdriver and a panel removal tool.  There is a screw under the door handle and at the pull.  A panel removal tool is available at the parts store for about five bucks.  I would really recommend that you get a Haynes manual or a factory service manual to show the steps as it is difficult to describe the process here.  The door panel lifts up after you get the screws and clips loose.  Then have someone hold it while you disconnect the wiring.  The factory speakers are dual cone and they do fail if you listen to the radio loud.  They are easuy to replace.  But, you will need the spacers to make aftermarket speakers fit.  Otherwise they will interfere with the window going down.  What I did was to cut the speaker out of the original plastic standoff and then used longer screws to attach aftermarket speakers.
