Nissan Repair: START PROBLEM, neutral safety switch, nissan pathfinder

Question
I have a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder with 120,000 miles.  When I turn on the ignition, all lights show on the display, but when I try to start it, it clicks.  I repeat this step about 15-20 times until the car finally starts.  Where would the problem be isolated, and could oil from the filter above that leaked on the starter be an issue?  I put in a new battery about 3 months ago.  Please help!!!

Answer
Erik,

The oil would not be a problem unless you were flooding the starter with oil as the starter is pretty well sealed.  The slow start issue sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery sufficiently.  Take it to Autozone or Checker and they will perform a charging system check for free and let you know if the alternator is putting out proper current.  If the charging system is fine then you are looking at a starter or the neutral safety switch on the shift mechanism or if you have a standard shift the clutch pedal safety switch.
