Nissan Repair: P0304, nissan altima gxe, nissan altima

Question
Dear Mr. Von Sudderth,

I am having a problem with OBDII code P0304. I own a 2000 Nissan Altima GXE with 2.4L DOHC. I previously had a code for o2 sensors also but replaced the o2 sensors and that code disappeared. But on the P0304, the car also has a definite misfire which is intermittant but consistant. I have changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. The compression in all of the cylinders reads 170-175psi. Fuel injectors are clean and have proper ohm resistance. The only thing left seems to be the coil. Am I correct in saying that the coil is located in the distributor? I cannot seem to find a coil anywhere else. Can this be checked or repaired, or does the whole distributor need to be replaced? I hope there is enough info, because I am running out of ideas to get the code to disappear and the car run smoother. Is there something else I may have overlooked?
Thanx,
Myron

Answer
Myron,

Yes, you are on the right track and I would replace the coil too.  You only have to purchase the coil and replace it.  If you have difficulties email me back.  For $20 bucks they have a haynes manual that pretty much describes the installation procedure.  Now, you can do an ohms check on the coil before replacement since there was an issue with crank angle sensors a while back.  But, with your code I would say it was the coil.
