The torque converter probably blew.  That is, the internal welds fail and the transmission no longer pulls in any gear and that includes reverse.  Check your fluid and if it is burnt or smells burnt it is probably taken the rest of the transmission clutches with it.  A complete rebuild is in order.  Now, the shift linkage has not come off has it.  I have seen that in the past.  But, only once...
