Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Sentra - Intermittent starting problem - Fuel pump tapping fixes temporarily, nissan sentra, courtesynissan

Question
The fuel pump of my 2000 Nissan Sentra was replaced around 6 months back by the previous owner. The car started giving intermittent starting problem recently which has increased in frequency off late. Tapping on the Fuel pump will most of the times help me to start the car. Once started the car runs fine.

Answer
AKJ,

The pump is probably defective.  The previous owner probably did not use a Nissan pump and I have had no luck wiht aftermarket.  I would replace with a Nissan unit.  Check on-line like rockauto.com or courtesynissan.com and you could save some money.  If you have to have it right away go to the dealer and purchase one.  But, my experience is they have to order it anyway and the cost of shipping is less than that tax for the part.  Plus you get to order on-line and do not have to go to the dealer twice to get your parts.
