Nissan Repair: 95 XE P/U Overdrive, electronic problem, comptuer

Two days ago my son's 95 P/U stopped shifting into overdrive.  The light on the dash works as it should with the button.  Is there anything I can check before I put the truck into the shop for an expensive repair?

If the overdrive is not working and the overdrive light is not flashing then you have a mechanical problem that will have to be looked into.  If the light was flashing on the overdrive it would indicate and electronic problem with the transmission and the comptuer that controls it.  I would take it in and discover why it is not going into overdrive.
