Nissan Repair: 97 nissan pick up running rich, mass air sensor, mass airflow sensor

Question
I have a 97 Nissan pick up its running really rich. It doesn’t have this problem all the time only when it gets hot. It will run rich and miss then snap out of it and be fine then  back to missing again. I have already changed the distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, tps and the fuel pressure regulator. I pulled the codes and now it says the mass air sensor  and the air intake temp sensor are bad. What else could it be?

Thanks,
Kris

Answer
Kris,

The mass airflow sensor is known for failure as is the air inlet temperature sensor.  I would replace these and reset the computer and you should be fine.  Be sure to check to make sure the hose from the mass airflow sensor and throttle body is not cracked and the hose clamps are tight.  Any unmetered air will screw up the way the engine runs as unmetered air will lean out the mix and the computer over compensates and that leads to a really rich condition.  You might check the hose first before you buy the other parts.  I ahve seen cracks in the pleats of the hose.
