Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan Altima Engine Problems, nissan altima gle, nissan altima

Question
I recently bought a 1995 Nissan Altima GLE.  168,000 miles.  The car started with a little squeak, and a minor tick noise from the valves, but i think maybe it is the belt/cold(?). The day after I bought the car, the engine light came on.  It drove fine for the next few days, but when I drove on the freeway after 5 min, it stalled.  Still, the lights, the radio, and everything else electronical worked but the RPM suddenly dropped to 0 and speed decreased as if the car was in nuetral.  I tried to accelerate but there was no response.  After trying to start the car for 5min, it started and i drove it for another minute (or half mile) then it died again.  I would like to know why my car dies please.

Answer
Nate,

The fuel pump or fuel pump relay could be the culpret on the engine stalling.  The tick is the valves needing adjustment.  I would change the oil first and use 5W30 and see if the tick goes away.  Check the fuel pressure with a gauge on the fuel rail to see if the pressure drops off when the car dies.  A common problem with the years and miles.
