Nissan Repair: Can you help by explaining..., mirror lamps, body control module bcm

Question
Can you help by explaining how to safely reset the Body Control Module (BCM) on a G35 2003 Coupe A/T?

Is Body Control Module the correct name for this unit? Unit is behind the kick plate driver's side by the fuse box?  I've seen a part listed in some part catalogs, keyless entry control module that sounds like it maybe this part but I'm not sure.

I have been able to determine that his module has a low voltage sensor (Battery Saver Output), when activated it kills power to the map lamps, visor mirror lamps, door step lamps, trunk lamp and the key ignition lamp.

I locked the keys in the car with the ignition switch on for 3 hours (don't ask and yes it was very stupid) so I believe the low voltage sensor kicked in. After a jump start I still had problems with all of these lamps. Voltage is back to normal and I'm still having the same problems.

Any chance it resets itself after a certain period of time or miles or number of starts without a problem? It has only been a day but the car has been driven 300 miles.

After some reading it seems that there is a tool used to program this unit, CONSULT-II. Do you have any experience with this tool? Is it a special tool or is it available for purchase? Would it be worth purchasing the tool?

While I'm writing I will be buying some additional remotes entries. Can you confirm the method to program the G35 2003 A/T is the same as the one already posted by you? If not would you be kind enough to provide the procedure

Thanks for all of your help.

George

Answer
George,

The BCM is the same as the computer that does all the things you describe.  I would charge the battery fully and give the remote another try on programming and yes the procedure is the same I listed before.  I should mention that the BCM for these cars have issues and there is a technical service bulletin that would allow the dealer to replace yours for free if you are still under the warranty limit.  If not they are aobut $600 bucks.  The Consult II tool is a Nissan/Infiniti/Renault dealer tool and it goes for $4500 bucks.  So, it would be cheaper to get a BCM from the wrecking yard and reprogram your keys and remotes if yours is defective unless you are wanting to give Infiniti a cool $1000 or better for the repair.  But, the good news is that Infiniti gives you a loaner for free while they do the repairs.  Your choice.  But, it sounds like you know what you are doing.
