Nissan Repair: 1997 Nissan Pathfinder wobbles out of control., nissan pathfinder, nissan website

Question
I have just recently purchased a 1997 Pathfinder from a police auction. It is a SE model with all the options (leather, auto, moonroof, 4x4, cd player, tire on the tailgate etc.). The overall appearance is very clean inside and out. The vehicle has less than 62k miles. I just purchased it 2 days ago; haven't got to tune it yet. However on my way home on the highway (about a 10 mile distance), at about 45 to 60 mph [didn't try to go any faster because of this problem], the vehicle started rock or wobble, if you may, fron left to right almost uncontrollably. I had to reduce my speed and stay in between 40 and 50 mph. I was in 2wd all the time. At the same time I here like something is loose, almost rockling like, near about the front/mid section underneath the vehicle. Would you happens to know what might be the cause of this wobbling; and what would be the best repair manual for me to own for my vehicle? Thank you in advance!

Answer
Marie,

I would go to the Nissan website and download the manual.  I think the cost is $20 bucks an hour and all the files are .pdf.

On the wobble thing you describe you could have a broken transmission mount, bad universal joint, out of balance tires and even a loose control arm or suspension component.  I would put the car on a lift and check out the suspension with a visual inspection first followed by a tire balance and then go from there.
