1992 Nissan Stanza, manual trans. would not start until ingnition was completely in off position, then turning key before crank. Finally will not crank at all, but get lights on dash board always, what is the problem?

From the sounds of it the ignition circuit is defective.  I would check the ignition switch first and then the relay.  You need to get under the car to see if the starter is getting voltage when the key is in the start mode.  Use a test light on the small terminal on the starter and have someone turn the ignition switch.  Be sure to use jackstands and block the wheels and make sure the brake is set and the transmission is in neutral.
