Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissa Maxima Hard to Start, alternator test, maxima gle

Question
Hi,
For about the past 2 weeks, my 1996 Maxima GLE has been getting harder and harder to start (like it's dragging when starting.) It now is getting to the point where every time it starts I think it may be the last time. I took it to Nissan, they could not duplicate the problem (of course) and all of their tests (battery test and electrical systems test--parasitic drain test) nothing was found. Yesterday it got so bad again running errands that I took it to Autozone for them to test. They did the battery test and alternator test and at the end of the testing, the machine said "charge battery and retest" so something is pulling juice out of the battery I assume. But the drag on the start is so slow, I would think the starter is the issue. The starter in the car is 2 years old and remanufactured...would the testing the dealer would have done showed that the starter is going out? Another person mentioned a Body Control Module...what is that and what in there could be the issue?

Answer
Joe,

It is not the body control module.  You probably have an alternator going out and that is taking the battery down slowly.  Also, you should check the car to see that no lights inside are staying on.  If a pin switch on the door is not depressed all the way the lights in the interior could be left on.  So, check it out and see if there is anything that could be draining the battery.  If there is no drain my bet is the alternator.
