Nissan Repair: In addition to 97 altima stall at idle, air control valve, optical pickup

Question
I forgot to mention that when my 97 altima stalls at idle, about 30% of the time it will start right back up. Most of the time, though, it doen't start right back up. The engine will spin, but it won't start. I usually have to wait 15 - 30 minutes. Also, the car will stall, when idle, multiple times a day. A nissan mechanic told me something about doing a noid test on the ECM to check fuel injectors or something like that, and said that ECM wasn't sending proper pulse so I needed to swap ECM. I did, to no avail. I asked him if idle air control valve could be a problem, he said this car doesn;t have those problems. I don't believe that after reading the posts here.

Answer
Marcus,

Do the idle air control and cleaning first and if that does not work take the distributor apart and look under the plate to see if there is oil on the optical pickup.  That will cause the problem you describe as well as the idle air control.
