Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan 240 overheating, nissan 240, radiator cap

Question
my 95 Nissan 240 keeps overheating, we have changed out the thermostat and flushed the radiator. Can you give any suggestions of what to try next?

Answer
Jennalee,

The headgasket could be leaking and the converter could be melted causing the overheating and that could have caused the headgasket to blow.  Have a co test done on the radiator to check for the presnece of exhaust gas in the antifreeze.  If there is exhaust in the antifreeze the headgasket is blown.  If not I would be looking at the timing to be sure that it is set correctly and the radiator cap is not defective.  If the headgasket is blown it could ahve been caused by a plugged converter so if they replace the headgasket be sure to have the converter checked for blockage.  I repaired a 240 and changed the headgasket and washed everything down and saw the ground glowing orange.  I looked under the car and found that the converter was glowing.  It was blocked partially and I changed it and all was fine.
