Nissan Repair: Fuel Pump, long periods of time, pep boys

I have NISSAN quest 1995. It just stopped while
I was driving on local roada. I have to tow the car to the mechanic (PEP BOYS.....). I was told that fuel pump is gone bad.
The question is while driving it suddely stopped
could that be the reason for that. I was charged $600 to chan fp. Is that reasonable price ?

Yes, the fuel pumps usually fail that way and the price is within reason.  I would keep a quarter of a tank of gas in the car in the future as a minimum.  You see, the fuel pump is in the gas tank and the fuel cools the pump.  If gas gets much lower for long periods of time it will cause the pump to overheat and fail.
