Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Sentra starting problems, nissan sentra, sentra

I have 2 problems.  One, the car does not start now and two, I can't get the shifter out of park.  Last night, the car did start and finally I wiggled the shifter enough to get it out of park. Drove to pickup dinner, left it in neutral, but when I went to start - nothing. Put it back in park - still could not start. ?

It sounds like the starter interlock is defective and that is what is causing the no start problem.  Also, this interacts with the shift interlock where the shifter will no come out of park unless the engine is on and the pedal is depressed.  I would replace the starter interlock first and see if that cures both problems.  If not, the start problem will be solved and then you will have to replace the shift interlock next.
