Nissan Repair: stalling, car stalls, air meter

Question
Having a problem with a '95 Altima, the car stalls when put into gear.  There is no check engine light and the only code is for a knock sensor.  It will chug and hesitate and then eventually stall out.  In park and neutral the accelerator can be pressed and it's just fine.  Can you help?

Answer
Sally,

Check the intake hose between the air meter and the throttle body to see if there are cracks.  If the engine, under load, opens up a crack the engine will get unmetered air and it will chug and die like you describe.  This is the big black rubber hose that comes off the engine to the filter box.
