Nissan Repair: engine stopped running, wont start, nissan maxima, dead battery

Question
I have a 1995 Nissan Maxima. The engine stopped running as I was driving and it wouldn't start back up. The engine won't even turn over when I put the key in the ignition. What should I check?

Answer
David,

If the car quit when driving and nothing happens when you turn the key would be an indication of a dead battery.  That is, if there is no power showing like lights or the radio.  Usually, the alternator goes out first.  but, since you said there was no indication of that I would think the battery died and possibly it took the main ignition fuse or fuseable link out with it.  So, check and change the battery and look at the fuses at the positive battery cable.
