Nissan Repair: Nissan light controls, daytime running lights, nissan repair

Question
I have replaced the column light and indicator switches in both of my Pickup(92) and Pathfinder(92), they were good for just over a year.
The daytime headlights do not work on the truck and occasionally on my Pathfinder.
At night, when I turn left the indicator comes on along with the high beams(Pathfinder). One of the headlamps is always dimmer on the right of the Pathfinder?.
It seems this is a common occurence in the Nissan vehicles, any cure , apart from getting another brand of vehicle ?
Feel free to put on Nissan repair message board

Answer
David,

If you installed aftermarket switches they do not last as long as the factory Nissan ones.  Also, on the headlight being dimmer than the other one I would check the grounds at the headlight and make sure that they are tight and corrosion free.  Some Nissan cars develop problems earlier than others and if you live where it snows and they use salt on the roads it speeds up the process.  I have had one Stanza that the switch lasted 17 years before it went out and I have had a Maxima that failed just after the three eyar warranty went out.  Lastly, check all the lights to make sure they are corrosion free.  Resistance in the system speeds up the failure of the master switch.  The daytime running lights runs off a relay so I would change the relay and again check for corrosion.  One more thing would be to use a good dielectric grease to inhibit corrosion on the new relay and on all the light sockets.
