Nissan Repair: replace water pump, nissan pickup truck, nissan pickup

Question
Mr Sudderth,
Thanks again in analyzing my water leak problem. Now, how difficult is it to replace a water pump in my '95 Nissan pickup truck (4 cylinder with air)? Should I buy new or rebuilt pump?

Thanks,
Tony

Answer
Tony,

It is not too difficult as long as you have metric tools.  Be sure to change the antifreeze when you do the pump and buy a new Nissan thermostat along with a new waterpump.  It is just basically removing all the stuff in the way and then removing the pump and cleaning up the sealing surface and then reinstalling the pump.  Pay attention to cleaning the water pump bolts so they do not bind when you reinstall them.  Also, get permatex #2 sealer for the bolts that enter the water jackets.  You will know the ones that you will need to clean will be the ones that use the sealer.
