Nissan Repair: Nissan Sentra Overheating, nissan sentra, radiator cap

Question
I have a 1993 nissan sentra that is overheating. Replaced waterpump, thermostat, radiator cap. Hoses are good and no visible leaks. Heater does not work, but did before replacing waterpump. Can't see any bubbles in radiator overflow. Both fans work. Overheats after 10 min .of idle or driving. Could air pocket cause this problem, if so how do you purge system. What else am I missing. Help...

Answer
Brian,

Yes, it is an air pocket.  Jack the front of the car up and put it on stands and block the wheels.  About a foot off the ground should do.  Then open the radiator cap and add coolant.  Start the car and have someone hold the throttle at 1000 rpms and fill the radiator.  Now, before they let off the gas put the cap back on.  Drive it around the block and let it sit until cool and repeat three times and the air should be gone.  You won't have to jack it up the next two times.  Just wait until cool and refill until it stays full.
