Question
I changed the distributor cap 2 days before I changed the rotor button (couldn't get both the same day).  Car still runs very rough - should I buy cap and rotor again, or could it be the distributor itself that's bad?  Sparkplug cables and plugs are new.

Answer
Byron,

Take the cap off and look at the rotor and cap and see if they work well together.  If you do not buy factory parts the manufacture of them is a little different with each one.  They might not work well together.

Second, the distributor is probably leaking oil up into the optical pickup area under the cover.  Take the cap, rotor and rotor post off to gain access to the plate that is below.  There are two screws that hold the cover on.  Also, there is one screw, in the center post that holds that on to the distributor.  Do not worry as the post is clocked so you can only reinstall it one way.  Now, under the cover you will see an LED pickup and shutter.  If there is oil in the works you need to replace the distributor and your problem is solved.
