Nissan Repair: Nissan Pathfinder stalling, nissan pathfinder, car records

Question
I have a 95 Nissan Pathfinder, automatic transmission.  For the last year, it's had the same problem that has just gotten worse.  The truck seems to idle low when I'm driving to where it jerks the car back and will eventually stall out.  It just turns off, and the ‘check engine' light comes on and the power steering is lost.  It's got to the point when it stalls out, that I can't get it to start back up until it's cooled down again. It seems to happen after the car is warmed up, and I don't detect any problems within the first ten minutes of driving. I have taken it to the shop several times, and the first couple of visits, they ran diagnostic tests but couldn't duplicate the problem.  They unplugged and plugged back in the air sensors, which seemed to remedy the problem for a few months.  Since the problem worsened and started to happen more often, I just took it into the shop again, and they replaced the throttle sensor, distributor and did a fuel flush.  However, it's still acting up. Looking back through my car records, I replaced the spark plugs last year.  Someone mentioned that it could be the spark plugs or fuel filter.  I was also told that I let the gas run too close to empty before filling it up.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Chris,

I would almost bet the air meter is failing.  They do not show a code but cause the problem you describe.  I would have the shop do an ohms check on the pins before replacement.  That seems to be the only way to tell if it is going out since it refuses to throw a code on the computer.  If you run the car out of gas it will mess with the evaporative part of the emmissions so that would not cause what you describe since you did not run out of gas.  It is best to keep a quarter of a tank to keep the fuel pump cool since it is in the tank.  It prevents premature pump failure.
