Nissan Repair: 99 Nissan Frontier, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I recently was driving and my engine just quit.  I was not able to start it until the next day but my check engine light was on.  I took it to a repair shop and they told me they could find nothing wrong with it and that the check engine light was an emission control switch.  Now when I drive and let off the gas pedal, it seems that it kind of lags back or drops down a gear.  Does this have something to do with the emissions or overdrive, or transmission.

Answer
Dan,

Take your car to Autozone or Checker and have the computer codes read to see what the error is.  You could have a mass air flow sensor going out or there might be a servo in the transmission sticking.  I need to know the codes to be sure.  And, I would not use the shop that told you there was nothing wrong since there was an error code.  You could buy your own code reader for about $65 bucks at Checker or the like.  Also, the parts stores do not charge for reading the codes since they want to sell you the parts to repair it.
