Nissan Repair: Problem with 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE, nissan maxima, nissan service

Question
I am the original owner and I have been experiencing the same problem now for several years on and off. When I put the key into the ignition, the dash board will light up, but the car will not start. I had Nissan service the car a few years ago and they changed the starter, but the car performed exactly the same. It was obviously not the starter. This problem has become much more frequent lately. I usually jiggle the key and eventually the car will start. Do you know what might be causing this to happen? Perhaps, the ignition (the portion where the key is entered) is going bad? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Answer
Jess,

I would check the ignition relay under the hood first.  it is in the relay box under the hood.  The ignition switch will go out over a long time if you have a lot of keys on your ring. The weight of the extra keys will take the ignition switch out.
